Turkey - Riding Out The Financial Crisis
The financial crisis spreading across the globe is bound to affect the decision of holidaymakers to some extent. Turkey is one country that has stated that the effect it will experience will be minimal. The country believes that while the crisis will have some affect to some degree, Turkey will be better able to ride out the storm than many more developmed western countries.
Turkey had the experience of its internal banking crisis in 2001. It has learned a great deal from this and now feels that the experience will hold it in good stead in the months and years ahead. That coupled with the fact that Turkey is still a place where holiday bargains can be found, as well as world class resorts, makes it likely that cash-strapped holidaymakers from Britain, Germany and other countries will turn to Turkey when next summer comes around.
Over 23 million people will have visited Turkey in 2008, and 2009 will most likely see an increase on that too. Many of the visitors will be seeking property as they start thinking of how they can live more cheaply in a country that still offers them a great life. Turkey has all that and more. So, while doom and gloom is descending on much of the west, out in the east Turkey is still smiling in the sunshine!
