The financial crisis spreading across the globe is bound to affect the decision of holidaymakers to some extent. Turkey is one country that has stated that the effect it will experience will be minimal. The country believes that while the crisis will have some affect to some degree, Turkey will be better able to ride out the storm than many more developmed western countries.

Turkey had the experience of its internal banking crisis in 2001. It has learned a great deal from this and now feels that the experience will hold it in good stead in the months and years ahead. That coupled with the fact that Turkey is still a place where holiday bargains can be found, as well as world class resorts, makes it likely that cash-strapped holidaymakers from Britain, Germany and other countries will turn to Turkey when next summer comes around.

Over 23 million people will have visited Turkey in 2008, and 2009 will most likely see an increase on that too. Many of the visitors will be seeking property as they start thinking of how they can live more cheaply in a country that still offers them a great life. Turkey has all that and more. So, while doom and gloom is descending on much of the west, out in the east Turkey is still smiling in the sunshine!

If you want to learn more about Turkey, its resorts and property markets, visit http://www.getturkey.com/.

Turkey is looking to play host to an expected 23 million plus visitors throughout 2008. With the year now into its last quarter, there is still time to even exceed expectations.

Tourist numbers of such magnitude would add close to £10 billion in revenue to the country. Coming up from an almost unheard of nobody not so many years ago, Turkey is now in the top 20 favourite places in the world to visit, and it’s moving up higher all the time.

Last year Turkey welcomed 18,500,000 visitors to the country. This puts it in the running to catch up with the other European favourite places to visit - Spain, Italy and France, though it still has some way to go. France, leading the European tourism market, gets over 79 million visitors a year. Spain in second place gets 58.5 million, and Italy attracts some 41 million every year.

Turkey stands in 11th place worldwide as the most welcome place for tourists. Its revenue share comes in at 9th place, however. Among the people who choose Turkey as a holiday destination are the Germans and the British. The country has some of the finest beaches and holiday resorts to be found in Europe, and it is still a bit of a bargain basement place as regards costs.

Turkey is known as the gateway to Asia. Part of the country is actually in Asia and the other part is in Europe. Every visitor on a holiday in Turkey will agree that it is one of the most fascinating places on the planet, steeped in history, magnificent architecture and culture. Shopping, eating out and seeing the sights will leave lingering memories that will last forever.

Istanbul is the largest city in the country. It is a fascinating city with a mutlitude of historic attractions. It is easier to travel around on public transport than by car due to the large volume of traffic. Taxis are another option, however, in Turkey they are quite inexpensive.

Topkapi Palace was the palace of the Ottoman Emperors and is greatly admired for its opulence. It contains the Turkish State Treasury, which houses an exhibit of weapons, and the Imperial Treasury. Chora Church was not uncovered until the middle of the 20th century. It is a Byzantine Church, dating back a thousand years and features beautiful mosaic frescoes throughout.

Bodrum is a village on the Aegean Coast and is a popular tourist spot. Bodrum Castle began construction in 1402 and now houses a museum with displays on underwater archeology. There is also the Uluburun, a well known shipwreck.

(part 2 to follow)
